My trip doing Touhoucon was an interesting experience. It had its ups and downs but I still had lots of fun and I managed to break even despite the audience being very niche.I'll be rather brief here on DA talking about my experience, but check out my art blog if you want to read MORE!
At this convention I went with
again and this time she had her own table next to me.
I thought that this place would be fun to do artist alley to get some more exposure and have fun. However the audience for Touhoucon was VERY niche so it was either you sold if you had Touhou-related or you didn't. Many artists (including myself) struggled a bit with sales since we either knew Touou casually or didn't. I only played the games casually so I didn't have a Touhou print. I instead just doodled a picture of one of the characters.
HOWEVER I had to pull through by talking to random people! Simply greeting people passing by with a "hello" and "how's it going" was tough, but in the long run it did wonders in helping me get sales. By doing that I was able to have conversations with people and some ended up buying a print or two. One guy ended up bringing his friends and girlfriend over just so that they all could get a print and have silly conversations lol. First day was slow, but I managed to sell a few things. Second day was my busiest since it was the day in which many people came and I was FULL on commissions. Third day was VERY SLOW, so I ended up talking to other artists nearby and did art/print trades. Overall sales was VERY surprising to me since I managed to break even by slightly more than a decent amount. I also managed to sell 3 of my shirts which got great response from people that they want me to design ANOTHER!
Aside from sales, I think I very much enjoyed talking with fellow artists around there. There were many unique artists with great styles and it was a pleasure getting to know them all. I did quite a few print trades with them and now I got NEW STUFF TO PUT ON MY WALLS!
IT WAS NICE SEEING YOU IN PERSON
I'd say Touhoucon probably wasn't the greatest for some people, but I had lots of fun despite issues. I also had a good time outside of the con too. During the trip, Zoe and I lodged at my aunt and uncle's place in which I was able to bond with them some more since I didn't really talk to them much. Since my aunt is a photographer, she took some PRO PHOTOS of Zoe and I! Its quite strange for me to be in a picture... BUT THAT GUY IS ME!
So yeah! I'd say I very much enjoyed Touhoucon!
As of now, I have so much school work to make up from the days I was absent so I'm BUSY BUSY AGAIN!!BUT I'll be uploading pictures of on-site commissions and art trades later this week.
Also BTW, I'm working on a new Sugar Skull Girl T-Shirt design
